The Soul

In Germany, in the old days, it was believed that the soul escapes from a sleeper’s mouth in the form of a white mouse and that to prevent the creature’s return would be fatal to the sleeper.

In Transylvania it was said that a small child should never sleep with its mouth open, or its soul will slip out in the shape of a mouse, and the child will never wake.

In Russia, the Milky Way was believed to be a road leading from this world to the next, and was sometimes referred to as the “mouse path”.
